Creeds/Confessions/Catechisms
(Hardcover)
by Phillip Schaff (3 Volumes) This is a diverse set that covers most of Christendom from a confessional stand point. Volume One is the history of creeds, confessions and catechisms. Volume 2 covers Greek and Latin creeds. most are not translated into English from the original Greek or Latin (with the exception of the more important ones for Protestants: Apostle's Creed, Nicene Creed etc.) so for most the majority of Volume Two is unreadable. Volume Three, however, more than makes up for what you may feel you lose in Volume Two. From Baptist to Lutheran, Presbyterian to Methodist, Volume Three is very properly titled "The Evangelical Protestant Creeds." The only thing not included of particular interest is the Westminster Larger Catechism. by various authors, edited by Ligon Duncan
